Carl William Craft was the former identity of the active Alpha in the Los Angeles Dollhouse.
Before the Dollhouse:
Formerly serving a sentence for crimes such as kidnapping and attempted murder -- his victim a woman named Nita Walsh -- Carl William Craft exchanged his sentence to serve a 5 year contract with the Dollhouse in its early experimental phase.

In "Epitaph One", Caroline will tell Dr. Saunders that no one has been wiped at Safe-Haven thanks to Alpha. The meaning of this is yet to be determined though it indicates that Alpha may have had a hand in developing “the cure”.
