Summer Glau (born July 24, 1981) is an American dancer and actress who portrayed the character of Bennett Halverson in season two of Dollhouse. Summer Glau has appeared in previous works of Joss Whedon, including an episode of Angel, and a staring role in Firefly and the related film, Serenity. In addition to several guest roles, Summer has appeared in The Unit, The 4400, and most recently, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Previous Work[]
One of Summer's first onscreen credits is the role of the Prima Ballerina in the thirteenth episode of Angel's third season. Shortly thereafter, she was cast as River Tam in Firefly, starring in each of the thirteen episodes and reprising the role in the film Serenity. During this time, she also had a guest role in Cold Case and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation with a role in Sleepover. Summer entered her film career after starring in Mammoth and The Initiation of Sarah. Summer's next roles become a reoccurring bases in The Unit and The 4400 before she was cast in the starring role of Cameron in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, something that has been credited due to her fight scenes in Serenity.
Dollhouse[]
After TSCC was upsettingly canceled, rumors began to circulate that Summer was being considered for a role in Dollhouse, something which Joss Whedon himself has commented on numerous occasions. Summer was confirmed to be cast in the recurring role of Bennett in Dollhouse on August 26, 2009. Joss Whedon stated that he didn't want her to be an Active, because "she's played her share of crazies, and I didn't want that. I just wanted someone who was a little off-kilter and yet enormously sympathetic"[1]. Glau called Bennett Halverson "a challenging role in many ways. The most challenging thing is the dead arm!"[1] Originally planned to only appear in two episodes, Summer will instead appear throughout the rest of the second season, [2] specifically in the episode Getting Closer.
