Dichen Lachman (born February 22, 1982) is an Australian actress notable for appearing in the Australian soap opera Neighbours as Katya Kinski and the American science fiction thriller Dollhouse as Sierra.[1]
Early Life[]
Lachman was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, and lived in Nepal until she was eight years old, before her family moved to Adelaide, Australia. Her mother was born in India and is of Tibetan descent, and her father is from Australia. She attended various schools in the area before attending Norwood Morialta High School, Annesley College, and University of Adelaide.
Career[]
Dichen's big break came in 2005 when she joined the cast of the long-running Australian soap opera Neighbours as nurse Katya Kinski. Originally, she auditioned for the part of Elle Robinson but as she wasn't ideal for the part. In the end, however, the character Katya was created for her. She left the show after her 14-month contract expired.
She trained at The Lynette Sheldon Actors Studio in Sydney between 2003 and 2008 and The Ivana Chubbuck Studio in 2007. During that time she has had supporting roles in films such as Safety in Numbers (2004), Aquamarine (2005), and Bled (2007). She has the lead role in the film Tyrannosaurus Azteca (2007) and in the film Sunday Punch (2010). Also in 2010 she guest-starred in an episode of the Doctor Who spin-off, Torchwood.
In 2014-15, she had the recurring role of Jiaying in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She reprised her role in the season 7 episodes "After, Before," and "Stolen" broadcast in 2020, by which time Enver Gjokaj had also joined the cast.
Other post-Dollhouse credits for Lachman have included ongoing roles in the TV series The Last Ship, Animal Kingdom and Altered Carbon.
Dollhouse[]
Lachman was announced as a cast member on March 26th, 2008. She since then appeared as Sierra; a main supporting character in the series with the episode "Belonging" dedicated to exploring her character's background.
