In the future world of "Epitaph One" the Actuals is the term coined by and for the people who haven't been imprinted. They are commonly identified by a "birthmark;" a tattoo on the back of their true name so that they can be readily identified by other Actuals as being who they think they are.
Priya Tsetsang, formerly the active Sierra came up with the idea of the birthmark. Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen (writers of "Epitaph One") suggest that she may have started the Actual's resistance.
